Overview
Under the oversight of the Board of Directors and the CEO, is responsible for managing the financial affairs of the organization and conducting financial analysis of operations, including preparing interim and final financial statements with supporting schedules, for the guidance of management and compliance with regulatory mandates. The controller will develop and implement policies, systems and procedures for budgeting, general ledger maintenance, cost accounting, accounts payable maintenance, accounts receivable maintenance and payroll, assuring timeliness and compliance with established accounting practices and pertinent laws and regulations. Reporting to the CEO and Board of Directors, he/she supervises the accounting staff and serves as staff to designated Board Committees.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Evaluate computerized systems and cost allocation plans.
* Prepare monthly financial reports.
* Supervise month-end and year-end financial closing.
* Ensure appropriate record keeping and reporting as required by accepted accounting standards and private government funding agencies. * Supervise annual financial audit as liaison with auditors.
* Oversee internal accounting controls for client trust account.
* Oversee processes involving check requests and procurement, employee expense reimbursements, approval of vendor invoices and other accounts payable, petty cash, and daily cash receipts; serve as liaison with major vendors.
* Performs monthly balance sheet account analysis.
* Performs budget vs. actual analysis for the CEO on a monthly basis.
* Reviews and approves accounts payable, ie; verifies that the payables comply with company policy.
* Books necessary journal entries on a monthly basis.
* Monitors delinquent A/R.
* Performs Financial Analysis.
* Prepares vendor analysis reports and reports findings and recommendations to the CEO and Board of Directors.
* Provides monthly Financial statements and budget variance reports to the CEO and the Board of Directors.
* Perform other related duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervises accounting department employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Essential Controller Skills & Characteristics
* Non profit experience is a must.
* B.A. in Accounting.
* 5-7 years progressively responsible accounting supervisory-management experience in non-profit organizations, or equivalent.
* Demonstrated excellent analytic, organizational, interpersonal, decision-making, computational, written and oral communication skills, including comfort speaking to groups and good judgment and tact dealing with from all walks of life.
* Audit experience is required.
* Position requires attention to detail, ability to gather, analyze and synthesize information, and advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Word, Excel and Outlook. Great Plains and Payroll systems experience is a must.
* Knowledge of GAAP guidelines.

facilties, Pfleger Center in North Hollywood and Socorro Residential in East Los Angeles.
Candidates should be bilingual(English/Spanish) and have a genuine interest in helping.
